SALT LAKE CITY, UT – August 3, 2023 - Filevine has excelled for years in case and document management, offering robust, custom task flows, deadline tools, data collection, internal communication, tagging, and foldering capabilities, but customers have increasingly sought a one-stop solution that could handle all of their legal work needs, including tracking time and payments for their services. With Filevine’s latest end-to-end offering, customers can now perform comprehensive timekeeping, create and send billing invoices, and receive and track payments all within the platform.
With Payments by Filevine, different types of fee agreements also are supported. Now firms that make their money off of contingency fees, hourly billing or flat fees can create those time entries or fee items, put them into an invoice, and easily get paid.
Timekeeping
With Filevine’s extensive timekeeping tool, legal professionals can track their time wherever they are working, whether that is within Filevine, Outlook, Gmail, a Word doc, or their mobile device. Users can start and stop timers with a single click, assign suggested time allotments to common tasks to keep time entries consistent, and set concurrent timers that automatically pause and restart when switching between projects. The tool allows for a high level of governance, so rates are hidden and editing capabilities are limited only to those with select permissions.
Users also benefit from a timekeeping dashboard where they can visualize how much time they have tracked over a specified period of time and can filter reports to analyze their billable hours. Customizable reports can also be connected to Filevine’s analytics dashboard, Periscope.
Billing
Not only can users centralize their time entries and expedite their timesheet review, but they can also generate invoices alongside their legal work. Filevine’s billing tool is designed to facilitate billing in one central location within a case project. Users can link time and expense entries to invoices, redline and revise documents right within Filevine, and send invoices without having to leave their workflow. Users can easily track case financials and notify clients when a retainer amount is emptied or running low.

Payments
With Filevine’s new payments feature, customers now have the ability to send their clients invoices for various fee agreements and easily view payment statuses all within Filevine and with minimal added work. Users can also request a retainer or fund replenishment directly from their operating system and easily view case funds without leaving their project. Rather than have to manually apply payments to invoices like many existing payment solutions, clients simply pay their invoice via a link, the payment is directly applied to the invoice, and the retainer amounts are updated. The deep integration of this commoditized feature allows for a more seamless, end-to-end workflow.
End-to-End Legal Platform
In 2023, legal services are increasing in demand and complexity. At any given time, an individual consumer of legal services may seek support with an estate sale, immigration application, car accident, or domestic dispute and may not want to seek out different legal teams for their varying, high-stakes legal needs. To best respond to this reality, law firms are becoming more versatile in their client services. They need a platform that can capture more than one type of fee agreement and help them support complex clients with complex needs. Now, Filevine enables clients to go to their one trusted firm for their varying legal needs.
“Filevine was finding firm after firm that separated their document management system from where they track their deadlines, their workflow, and where they track the economics of the case. It is the natural solution to manage your cases and report on your case finances in the context of where the work is already happening,” said EVP of Product, Michael Anderson. “Critical work belongs in the same place, and Filevine is thrilled to offer end-to-end software capabilities for its customers.”
With integrated, purpose-built systems for case management, contract management, document management, and now timekeeping, billing and payments, Filevine is empowering legal teams to minimize busywork, centralize their end-to-end workflow, and maximize billable hours.
